Animal Care Award . . . (Download the pdf application)
In partnership with Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture, FACS has developed an "Animal Care Award," targeted at University students in the colleges of Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine and Education at the University of Saskatchewan.
To qualify for a $1,000 Animal Care Award, participating students must write a one page article, suitable for publishing, on key animal care issues and trends facing one of six livestock sectors (pork, beef, poultry, dairy, equine and game farmed animals). The articles will be reviewed by a Committee with the finalists delivering a presentation based on their article to the Committee. (Shown here: 2003 award recipients.)
Through this award program, FACS and Saskatchewan Agriculture, Food and Rural Revitalization hope to raise awareness about issues regarding the livestock industry and animal care. If the program is successful, the offering may be expanded to include high school students, as means of reaching a broader group of people.
